Utilitarianism
The Ethical Law "Humanitarianism" is "ends-based". This means it judges whether an action is good or bad through the outcome. It supports the fact that the moral decision is whatever will produce the greatest benefit for the largest amount of people.
Arranged marriage could be looked upon in two very different ways regarding this theory. It could either be said that the bride and groom would feel as though their lives were progressing, and that they were a little more complete now that they were married. They could also feel as though they no longer have to worry about finding someone to marry before they are too old, and may generally feel happier and as though they have benefited having gone through an arranged marriage. That being said, there could be people who feel extremely trapped in an arranged marriage- they could feel as though there is no escaping it unless they want to disappoint their family, and could think their own happiness is not worth putting shame upon them- this could lead to depression, and would overall not benefit the person.
It varies from situation to situation, and the people who are dealing with the arranged marriage- it depends highly on whether the man and the woman are actually happy with an arranged marriage, and are not pretending to for the sake of their family.
Due to it depending on the people who are involved with the arranged marriage themselves, we CANNOT TELL whether arranged marriage is seen as right or wrong on the terms of the Utilitarianism Theory.
