Religious Views on Arranged Marriage
Some religions share opinions about arranged marriage, and others do not. In the past within many cultures, arranged marriages were not uncommon and were actually REGULAR among communities.
In particular, Islamic and South Asian countries had a high rate of arranged marriages and in fact 90% of India's marriages in 2012 were arranged. Although these two areas are known for their involvement in arranged marriages they both differ quite a bit as to what rules there are about it. These two areas are not the only ones partaking in arranged marriages- China and Japan are also known for it (these countries vary in religion, but a large majority are Buddhist).
Jain, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Islam and Jewish are all religions which have had a history of arranged marriages- no religion is completely and fully opposed to the idea of it. The two most different religious views would be of Islam and of Hinduism and this is concerning the rules they have about being pressurized into it. These are the two religions we will be focusing on.
