Islamic Views on Arranged Marriage
Islamic views on arranged marriage are very clear: it is acceptable, and if anything it is encouraged.
This could be partially to do with the fact that it is against Islam for a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim man, and is punishable by death- arranged marriage only ensures that this case is avoided and a suitable suitor is selected for the girl to marry. However, another thing that goes against Islam is for either the man or the woman to be unhappy with the selected partner for their arranged marriage. The 'Nikkah' (marriage ceremony) can not be carried out if either the man or the woman does not agree with the marriage, and it is up to the parents to ensure that the partner they have chosen will be compatible with their child- these were strict orders of the Prophet Allah.
Forced marriage is looked upon extremely negatively in Islam. Marriage is expressed as the right of the individual and so others can not make the decision for them otherwise the marriage is expressed as invalid. If a force marriage took place, those who forced it and those who allowed it to happen would be recognized as people who had committed major sins to Allah.
In conclusion, so long as consent from both the man and the woman is had for the arranged marriage to occur, arranged marriage is looked upon as RIGHT on Islamic terms.
